The legend about Le Loi – Le Thai To’s sword explains the lake’s name. For the tower’s name, there happened to be a species of large soft-sell turtle (may be 2m long) living in the lake. They used to show up laying around the tower, in fact it was the only dry place away from human. The last individual of them died a few years ago.
